The Gulf Coast Renaissance Faire and Pirate Festival

Jousting, sword fighting, and medieval eats, the Gulf Coast Renaissance Faire and Pirate Festival offers history, fun, and excitement all in one!

gulf-coast-renaissance-faire-and-pirate-festivalNow in its 17th year, the Gulf Coast Renaissance Faire features jousting exhibitions, sword fighting, and medieval eats. This unique event combines Pensacola’s multi-national heritage and history in a fun family-friendly environment.

Patrons are encouraged to come in costume, as the event seeks to forge new bonds between the past and present. And in case physical activity is not your cup of grog, exotic birds and dancers will surely keep you entertained!

With its focus on Medieval Europe, as well as the 16th-century Gulf Coast, performances include fully costumed jousting knights, falconers, pirates, and “royalty.” You’ll step back in time while enjoying the Medieval Village’s arts and crafts from local artisans, and experienced actors who entertain the masses in full costume depicting Pensacola’s English Isle ancestors.

Stages and performance areas are set up for scheduled shows, such as plays in Shakespearean or commedia dell’arte tradition, as well as anachronistic audience participation comedy routines. Other performances include dancers, magicians, musicians, jugglers, and singers. Between the stages, the streets (“lanes”) are lined with stores (“shoppes”) and stalls.

Games include basic skills events such as archery, axe-throwing, and other games of skill. Rides are typically not machine-powered, and various animal rides and human-powered swings are common.

While craftsmen and women peddle their handmade wares, food vendors sell food and drinks true to the times. Bite into a giant turkey leg and sip on a flagon of ale while perusing the many games, shops, and attractions! Live displays, including instrument building, blacksmithing, and period craft making, promise to entertain and educate.
